Mayor of the Armenian Capital Visits Montréal

Upon invitation of the Honourable Gérald Tremblay, Mayor of Montreal, the newly elected Mayor of Yerevan Gagik Beglaryan, visited Montreal on July 22-24. A twinning agreement between the two cities was signed in 2001.


At the meeting in Montréal City Hall the Mayor of Yerevan discussed with Mr. Gérald Tremblay the perspectives of deepening friendly ties and cooperation between Yerevan and Montréal.


Mr. Beglaryan also met the Honourable Laurent Lessard, Minister of Municipal Affairs, Regions and Land Occupancy of Québec. One of the issues discussed during the meeting was the support of Québec for the francophony related projects in Armenia.


During the visit, the Mayor of Yerevan had a separate meeting with the Montréal City Councillors of Armenian origin, Ms. Noushig Eloyan, Ms. Mery Deros and Ms. Hasmig Belleli.


While in Montréal, Mayor Beglaryan visited the St-Michel Environmental Complex and met the representatives of private companies involved in municipal services.


In the framework of his visit, the Mayor of Yerevan visited the Armenian community facilities of Montréal, the Diocese of the Armenian Apostolic Church of Canada, and gave interviews to the Armenian mass media of Montréal.
