Independence Day Celebration at the Armenian Embassy

On September 21, 2006, more than 100 representatives of the Canadian-Armenian community attended the reception at the Armenian Embassy to celebrate the 15th Anniversary of the Independence of the Republic of Armenia.

Welcoming the guests from Ottawa, Montreal and Toronto, Mr. Arman Akopian, the Chargé d’Affaires of the Republic of Armenia in Canada, spoke about the progress achieved by Armenia during the 15 years of independence, the difficulties still present and the future goals and perspectives. He stressed that joint efforts of all Armenians– both living in their historical homeland and in Diaspora- are a key to building stronger, prosperous and democratic Armenia.

The guest of honour, well-known Canadian-Armenian singer Krikor Jangeozian, was awarded with the gold medal of the Ministry of Culture and Youth Affairs of the Republic of Armenia for his talent, services to the Armenian community and numerous acts of charity through Hayastan All-Armenian Fund. Armenian songs performed by Mr. Jangeozian accompanied on the piano by Ms. Tina Ayntaplian were warmly welcomed by the participants of the reception.

During the event the Embassy’s new website was officially launched.

Earlier that day a delegation representing the Canadian Diocese of the Armenian Apostolic Church, headed by H.E. Bishop Bagrat Galstanian visited the Embassy. In commemoration of the 15th Anniversary of Independence of Armenia, Bishop Galstanian presented Mr. Akopian with a replica of a medieval Armenian manuscript.
