Doors Open Ottawa 2008
June 23, 2008
Dear Mr. Akopian,
On June 7th and 8th nearly 40,000 people shared the experience of celebrating our City by exploring it's most fascinating buildings during Doors Open Ottawa. Your participation is crucial in allowing this event to prosper. Doors Open Ottawa 2008 was particularly successful not only because of its "Green" theme but also because of a number of event-related accomplishments, such as: 112 participating buildings, a record number of returning volunteers, another successful photo contest in collaboration with Flickr and Frames by Rockwell, a brand new Facebook group, the creation of our first ever kids guide as well as "A foot in the Door", our on-line newsletter.
This year new and returning favourites such as: the Embassy of Armenia, the William-Saunders building, Dickinson House, the Embassy of France, Rideau Hall and Seven Rideau Gate welcomed the public inside during the event. As well, many of our new "green" buildings greeted many visitors. Including the Rideau Valley Conservation Centre, the Great Canadian Theatre Company, the Lester B. Pearson Building, Maplelawn Historic Gardens and many more.
Doors Open Ottawa is about our City's heritage and its architecture - but most of all it is about community. By opening the doors to your buildings you have demonstrated that you truly appreciate the value of encouraging the people of Ottawa to rediscover the structures and places that speak to the evolution of our community.
On behalf of the event's Advisory Council and Sub-Committees, we would like to acknowledge your invaluable contribution to the continuing success of Doors Open Ottawa.
We hope that the partnerships we've made with you will be long and healthy ones. We look forward to working with you again in 2009!
Sincerely,
Marcelle Kimberley,
Event Manager
