Awareness of Armenian History
March 6, 2010
My name is Jason Romisher and I am a Secondary School History Teacher in Ajax, Ontario. I am in the process of reading Children of Armenia: A Forgetten Genocide and the Century-Long Struggle for Justice. My father is Jewish and I could not fathom Germany denying its actions in the aftermath of World War Two. I have an Honour's History Degree from Queen's University and learned nothing about the Armenian Genocide. The actions of the Turkish government are unacceptable. The Ontario curriculum includes nothing about the Armenian Genocide, while mentioning events such as the Holocaust and Rwanda. I am ensuring that each of my classes in the present and future will receive instruction about the events of the Genocide and the tactics of the Turkish government to attempt to rewrite history. I am very disappointed that each American President since Wilson has caved time and again to Turkey's pressure, Obama being the latest.
Sincerely,
Jason Romisher
